Facial Pain
TMJ
Temporomandibular joint and muscle disorders (TMJDs), commonly called "TMJ", are a group of conditions that cause pain and dysfunction in the jaw joint and the muscles that control jaw movement. Some estimates suggest that over 10 million North Americans are affected. Many patients suffer from TMJ pain from unknown causes and most of them are offered treatment options that generally mask TMJ symptoms (e.g., NSAID's, analgesics, cortisone injections, etc.). However, by understanding and treating the source of the patient's pain, physicians may be able to treat much more effectively without implementing analgesic and muscle relaxant use that is prone to the development of tolerance and often associated with negative side-effects. A more holistic view of the body will equip practitioners to properly locate the source of pain within the vertices. And by recognizing and treating these misaligned areas, practitioners will be able to treat and prevent various types of musculoskeletal conditions.
There are methods to treat TMJ symptom in conservative and noninvasive techniques such as splint or bite plate for relieving muscle tension, and a simple injection of cortisone medication. As a last resort, surgical replacement (often irreversible) of the jaw joints with artificial implants is available. However, these treatment methods do not resolve the cause/source of TMJ symptom. We use Tensegrity Model Acupuncture as known as Vertex Synchronizing Technique (VST) Acupuncture to achieve realignment of TMJ structure biomechanically in 3 dimensions for treating TMJ symptom.
